How to Style Your Wig

Once you've found the right wig, styling it well is what makes it feel truly yours. Whether you're creating a sleek everyday look or an updo for a special occasion, a little know-how goes a long way toward keeping your wig looking natural and lasting longer.

Human Hair vs. Synthetic: What You Can (and Can't) Do

Human hair wigs behave like your own hair — you can use heat tools, change the parting, and restyle them as often as you like, within the same care limits as natural hair. Synthetic wigs, by contrast, are pre-set into their style at the factory; most can't take heat above a low, wig-safe setting without damaging the fibres, so styling is more about gentle adjustment than reshaping.

Creating an Updo Without Damaging the Cap

If you want to wear your wig up, a few things make the difference between a style that lasts all day and one that pulls at the cap:

  • Use covered hair ties or wig-specific clips rather than tight elastic bands, which can stress the cap's edges over time.
  • Secure from underneath the wig where possible, rather than through the visible cap, to keep the hairline looking undisturbed.
  • Avoid pulling the style too tight at the front — a little looseness at the hairline keeps it looking natural and reduces strain on delicate lace or silk base construction.

If you'd rather start from a style that's already updo-ready, our Pre-Styled Updo Wigs are set this way from the start.

Everyday Styling Tips for a Natural Look

  • Brush gently from the ends upward, not from the roots down, to avoid loosening the wefts or hand-tied strands.
  • Use a heat protectant spray before styling human hair wigs, exactly as you would with natural hair.
  • Store your wig on a stand when not in use to help it hold its shape between wears.
